Development Courses for Supervisors

Many team leaders are appointed because they are the really good at their work. The appointment to team leader changes their job from being responsible for doing the work, to being accountable for getting the work done properly by their staff.

This accountability means the buck stops with the team leader. When the department has a complex or important or deadline driven project how does the team leader cope? They frequently do the work themselves!

This leads to a cycle of the staff feeling that their team leader has no confidence in their ability. They become demotivated and feel a low sense of worth. The supervisors respond to this situation by doing even more of the work themselves and not leading their teams. The supervisor turns into the "superworker".

The skills required to be an effective supervisor are offered as stand alone programmes which develop the core skills of first line supervisors and junior managers. These stand alone programmes are also offered as an intensive course over 10 days.
